máquinas PMU

Start with the work you do most often, then consider how the complete setup supports your technique.

• Your main techniques: Hair strokes, pixel shading, soft blending, and defined lines involve different hand movements and cartridge configurations. Use the techniques you practise as the starting point for comparison.
• Stroke length: Stroke is the distance the needle travels during each cycle. It influences working feel alongside the motor, cartridge, operating settings, and your hand movement.
• Fixed or adjustable stroke: A fixed stroke provides one consistent setting. An adjustable stroke allows you to explore different working characteristics within the machine’s available range.
• Operating controls: Consider how clearly settings are displayed and how easily you can make adjustments. Stroke length and operating speed describe different aspects of needle movement.
• Grip and balance: Compare grip diameter, overall weight, and balance with the battery attached. A comfortable setup should allow you to guide the pen without continually adjusting your hold.
• Daily working hours: Review rated runtime, charging time, and available power options in relation to your usual schedule.

Stroke selection depends on the interaction between the machine, cartridge, and artist’s technique.

For beginners, useful priorities include clear controls, comfortable handling, accessible setting information, and compatibility with the cartridges used in training.

A fixed-stroke setup keeps one variable consistent while you develop your working rhythm. An adjustable-stroke setup provides opportunities to explore different settings as your understanding grows. Your course requirements and instructor’s guidance can help you decide which approach fits your learning process.

The best tattoo machine for PMU depends on your technique, preferred stroke length, and working style. We recommend the MAST P60 for artists who want adjustable strokes for different procedures. Its five settings from 2.2 to 3.2mm offer flexibility across brow, lip, and eyeliner work. For a simpler fixed-stroke setup, consider the MAST P20.

The MAST P20 is worth considering for artists developing their PMU skills. Its fixed 2.5mm stroke, button controls, and digital display provide a straightforward setup for learning machine operation and practising consistent technique. Choose equipment that matches your training and your instructor’s guidance.

PMU and body tattoo machines often share the same rotary working principle. Their main differences are intended use, operating characteristics, and cartridge setup.

PMU machines are designed around detailed brow, lip blush, and eyeliner work, emphasising controlled needle movement, comfortable handling, and cartridges suited to fine lines and shading. Body tattoo machines accommodate a broader range of designs, needle groupings, and coverage needs.

Stroke lengths and features can overlap, and some machines support both applications. Check each model’s intended uses, controls, grip, and cartridge compatibility when choosing your setup.
